Directions:Pour 1 c. finely crumbled dried bread crumbs into a bowl. Add 8 oz. (1 c.) of white glue and 1 Tbsp. glycerin. Mix thoroughly with fork until dough pulls away from sides of bowl. Wash out bowl before glues dries. Knead 2 to 3 minutes in hands ( it is very sticky at this point). Set dough on waxed paper, wash and dry hands, then knead again 2 to 3 minutes until dough is soft, pliable, and no longer sticky. Put dough in plastic bag, seal and let sit (un-refrigerated) for 5 hours or overnight. Dough can be kept up to one week before it will begin to harden and become unworkable. Roll up a small piece of dough for the nose and press it in the middle of styrene-foam egg (3 or 4-inch size). Blend edges of dough into form with finger, smooth out as you go. Roll out dough in a circle that will cover styrene-foam head, about 1/8 to 3/16-inch thick. If dough is too sticky, roll out on waxed paper. Wrap dough around front of face, molding toward back. Pinch off excess and blend edges. Be careful to keep surface smooth. Dip finger in glycerin and rub over any cracks; indent for eyes. Push 3/8-inch dowel 2-inches into base (a rectangle piece of styrene-foam), Let head dry 1 or 2 days. Use acrylic paint and a fine brush, or waterproof marker for features. Rub pink on cheeks with finger. Add hair, hats, neck scarves, etc. as desired. |
