Toast 2 slices bread and cut into 1 inch cubes.
Combine 1 can tomatoes, 1 1/2 cups sugar, 2 tablespoons grated onion, salt and pepper to taste.

Directions:
Directions:
Put 1/2 tomato mixture in bottom of greased casserole, then 1/2 bread cubes, then remaining tomatoes and bread cubes. Dot with butter.
Bake 30 minutes at 350 or until tomatoes have bubbled and become a little caramelized at the very sides.
