2 eggs
2 cups brown sugar
1 tsp baking soda
3/4 shortening
1/4 butter
31/2 cups flour
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp salt

Filling
3 cups chopped dates
2 cups water
1 cup brown sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Combine dates , water and brown sugar for filling in a microwaveable dish and cook til dates are soft and combined well. Set aside to cool.
Cream eggs, sugar,shortening, butter and vanilla. In small bowl combine flour, baking soda and salt. Add to egg mixture and mix well. Chill dough for 30 minutes. Roll out dough and cut with round cookie cutter. Place 1 tsp of date mixture on round and fold over , pressing edges together. Bake at 350º till golden browm
