Ingredients: 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened 1 1/4 cup granulated sugar 2 eggs 1 cup very ripe bananas, mashed 3/4 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans), if desired 3 tablespoons evaporated milk Dash of white vinegar 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 1/2 cup all-purpose flour 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 tablespoon vanilla

Directions:Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour at 9 x 5 x 3" loaf pan. Blend soft butter with sugar. Add eggs. Add bananas. Add nuts, if desired. Sour milk with vinegar: dissolve baking soda in milk (be sure to use a large container as the mixture will expand). Add to mixture. Add flour and salt. Blend and add vanilla.
Bake for 50 to 55 minutes at 350 degrees. |

Notes: This is my grandmother's banana bread recipe. My mother still makes it for me, my siblings, and now for her grandchildren when we come home for the holidays. My mother's siblings also have carried on the love for this recipe. In fact, it's not uncommon for the family to receive multiple loaves from my mother's brothers and sister during the holiday season!
