1 C. Karo Syrup
2 C. Sugar
3 C. Cream (adding only 1 C at room temp at a time)
dash of salt
1 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Mix Karo syrup and sugar until melted over medium high heat.
Then add 1 C cream at room temperature. Heat to soft ball stage.
Then add another 1 C cream bringing to soft ball again.
Then add the last 1 C cream and bring to hard ball stage.
remove from the heat and add the dash of salt and the 1 tsp of vanilla as you continue to stir(It will boil harder)
Pour into a buttered 8x8x2 square pan.

If the caramel doesn't set, reheat and bring to a higher temperature on the candy thermometer. If it is too hard, remelt and add more cream.

This was a secret Grandma Kryger recipe or at least we thought it was. Then we saw that she published it in the Brinnon Cookbook. Now every one on Hood Canal has the recipe. It's all good, because everyone should get to eat this caramel. If you like caramel sauce for your ice cream then don't cook as long. Happy Sweet Sticky Tooth.
