1 cup shortening
2 1/2 cup sifted icing sugar
3 eggs
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
4 squares unsweetened chocolate, melted
1 3/4 cup sifted cake flour
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 cup buttermilk or sour milk

Directions:

Preheat oven 350º

Mix shortening, icing sugar, eggs, salt and vanilla for 2 minutes at medium speed.
Blend in melted chocolate during last minute of mixing.
Reserve 2 cups for frosting.
Sift together flour, sugar, baking soda.
Add to remaining creamed mixture with buttermilk.
Beat for an additional 2 minutes
Pour into 2, 8" greased pans and bake 30 minutes or until done.
