2 1/4 c. flour, sifted
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 T. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. pecans, chopped
1 c. dates, chopped
1/3 c. maraschino cherries, chopped
sliced cherries for cookie tops
2 1/2 c. corn flakes, crushed

Directions:

Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
Cream together the shortening and sugar. Blend in eggs. Add milk and vanilla. Blend in sifted dry ingredients; add pecans, dates, and cherries. Mix well and shape into balls using a level tablespoon of dough for each cookie.
Crush corn flakes and roll each ball in flakes. Place on greased cookie sheet. Top each cookie with 1/4 cherry. Bake at 375º for 10 to 12 minutes.

This cookie recipe originated on boxes of Kellogg's Corn Flakes. It rapidly became my Dad's favorite cookie, and he sometimes made them and mailed them to me in college. Receiving them was always a happy occasion!
