3/4 c. butter or margarine, softened
1/4 c. shortening
3/4 c. sugar
3/4 c. brown sugar, packed
2 large eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1 12-oz. pkg. semisweet chocolate chips
1 c. chopped nuts, optional
Directions:
Directions:
Beat butter and shortening at medium speed of electric mixer until fluffy; gradually add sugars, beating well. Add eggs and vanilla, beating well.
Combine flour, soda, and salt; add to creamed mixture, mixing well. Stir in chocolate morsels and nuts.
Drop dough by heaping teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 375º for 9 to 11 minutes. Cool slightly on cookie sheets; remove to wire racks to cool completely.

Yield: about 6 1/2 dozen
