1 cup shortening
2 cups sugar
1 teas. nutmeg
2 teas. vanilla
1 cup buttermilk
2 eggs
6 cups all purpose flour
1 teas salt
1 teas baking soda
9 teas. baking powder.

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees

In mixing bowl mix eggs, shortening, sugar, nutmeg, vanilla, salt.

In large measuring cup mix baking powder with the buttermilk. This will foam up.
Mix flour, baking soda and salt together then slowly add to creamed mixture in mixing bowl. Alternately add buttermilk with baking powder and the flour mixture.
When well mixed, roll out onto a gently floured space and use rolling pin to roll to desired thickness. Cut with cooky cutter. Remember to dip cutter into flour so there will be less sticking.

If dough is to sticky to roll very slowly add a little flour to the ball you are rolling out.

Place on ungreased cookie sheet. sprinkle with colored sugars if desired.
bake for 5 minutes.

Be sure you follow the instructions well, some people have tried to change them and had the cookies not be right.
