2 c flour
2 c sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 c buttermilk
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 large eggs
2 sticks butter
4 T cocoa
1 c water

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

For the cake: In a large bowl combine the flour, sugar and salt. Stir together and set aside. In another bowl mix the buttermilk, baking soda, eggs and vanilla. Mix with a fork and set aside.
In a saucepan melt the butter and then add the cocoa. Whisk to combine. Bring the water to a boil and then add to the butter mixture. Pour the butter mixture into the flour mixture. Let cool slightly. Pour into the egg mixture and stir until smooth. Pour into an ungreased jelly roll pan. Bake for 20 minutes or until done.

For the icing: While the cake is baking make icing. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat-low heat. Remove from the heat and add the cocoa powder and stir until smooth. Stir in milk, vanilla and powdered sugar. Stir in pecans. After removing the cake from the oven pour the warm icing evenly over the cake. Try not to do to much spreading to avoid tearing up the cake.
