For the meatballs:
1 1/2 lbs. ground beef
1/2 lb. ground pork
1/4 c. flavored bread crumbs
1 clove garlic, crushed
1/2 tsp. pepper
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1/2 c. milk
1 tsp. dried basil
1/4 c. fresh parsley, chopped
2 tsp. salt
salad oil

For the Italian spaghetti sauce:
1/2 c. salad oil
2 c. onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, crushed
5 (14 oz.) cans Italian tomatoes, not drained and chopped fine
4 (6 oz.) cans tomato paste
1/2 tsp. dried oregano
2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
2 tsp. dried basil
4 T. sugar
4 T. fresh parsley, chopped
1 c. water

For the Italian spaghetti sauce:
Sauté onion and garlic in hot oil in Dutch oven, stirring for 5 minutes. Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.

For the meatballs:
Combine the ground beef, ground pork, bread crumbs, garlic, pepper, eggs, milk, basil, parsley and salt in a large bowl, mixing well with hands. Shape into 1 1/2" meatballs with moistened hands. Brown on all sides in a heavy skillet containing a small amount of salad oil. Add to the Italian spaghetti sauce and simmer an additional 30 minutes.

Serve over your favorite noodles or rice.
