Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 pkg. dry yeast
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. sugar
1 cup lukewarm water
1 1/2 cups flour
1 egg
1 tbsp. melted butter
oil for frying
powdered sugar
cinnamon (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Mix the yeast, salt and sugar in a medium-sized bowl. Slowly add lukewarm water and stir to dissolve yeast; about 10 minutes. Add half of the flour and beat until smooth. Beat in the egg and melted butter. Add the remaining flour and beat to make a smooth batter. If it is too heavy, add a little more lukewarm water. Cover and allow to rest for about 30 minutes. In a medium saucepan, heat a sufficient amount of vegetable oil for deep frying. When the oil is very hot, adjust the heat to medium-high. Drop the batter by full teaspoons into the hot oil and brown on one side; turn to brown the second side. Remove with a slotted spoon onto cookie sheets lined with paper towels. These are best served warm or when only a few hours old. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and pile pyramid fashion on a plate to serve. If you wish, you may add a final dash or two of cinnamon over all.

Personal Notes:
Our grandma Angela used to make these when we were children. They were very sweet and delicious. Over the years, we have made them many times, yet they never seem to taste quite as good as hers tasted!
