1 1/2 c. hot applesauce
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. shortening
3/4 c. sugar
2 c. flour
1 tsp. each nutmeg and cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 c. raisins
1 c. nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Put baking soda in hot applesauce and set aside.

Mix together sugar and shortening. In separate bowl mix all dry ingredients together. Add dry ingredients to sugar mixture alternately with applesauce (beginning and ending with dry ingredients). Place in a 9x13 pan and bake at 325º for approximately 45 minutes (or until knife inserted in the center of cake comes out clean).
