1 stick butter
1/2 cup veg. shortening
2 1/2 cups sugar
5 large eggs
3 cups sifted flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
1 small can evaporated milk + enough water to make 1 cup
2 tsp. vanilla extract

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and shortening, and blend sugar and eggs one at a time, Beating well. Sift together flour, salt and baking powder; combine milk/water mixture.

Add dry ingredients and liquids alternately to sugar- butter mixture. Beat in vanilla.

Bake in a greased and floured 10 inch tube pan. Place cake in cold oven. Turn oven to 350 and bake one hour without opening door.

A delicious pound cake---- nice texture. This cake may be baked in 2 loaf pans instead of tube pan at same time and temperature.
