2 c brown sugar
1 c butter or shortening
3 eggs
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. soda
4 c flour (1 c for rolling)
1 tsp. vanilla

Filling: 1 c sugar
1 c water
1 c dates or raisins (ground)
1/2 c nuts (optional)

Directions:

Cook filling ingredients 5 to 10 minutes, stirring. Cool a few minutes. Mix cookie ingredients and roll out jelly roll style. Roll up and chill. Slice and bake at 375º for 10 minutes.
