Directions:
Combine 1 cup of flour with yeast. In sauce pan heat water, butter, sugar and salt until warm (on medium low) Add to dry ingredients with egg. Beat at low speed for 1/2 minute, scrapping sides of bowl. Beat for 3 minutes on high. By hand add remaining flour and knead for about 5 minutes - until smooth. Cover let rest for 10 minutes. Roll dough into a 12 x 9 inch rectangle. Cut lengthwise into 3 12 x 9 strips. Brush with melted butter. Sprinkle 1/3 of ham and cheese on each strip. Bring lengthwise ends of each strip together enclosing filling; pinch to seal. Place strips side by side on a large baking sheet seam side down and braid together. Cover; place in oven. Turn oven on to 250 turn off after 1 minute. Open oven door slightly; let dough rise til nearly double (about 30 minutes) Remove from oven; preheat oven to 375. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until golden brown and loaf sounds hollow when lightly tapped. Transfer to metal rack; brush with melted butter and sprinkle with herbs serve warm

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
When I am not up for making the bread dough I "cheat" and use ready made dough. I have gotten the pizza dough balls and used a couple of them - sometimes using one regular and one wheat. Much less work and tastes almost as good! I often will make this with leftover ham or purchase a ham steak and use that.
