½ c shortening
¾ c sugar
¼ c molasses
1 egg
4 ½ c flour
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 tsp ginger
1 tsp cloves
1 tsp cinnamon
1 c boiling water

Icing:
2 c powdered sugar
1 TBSP butter, softened
1 tsp lemon extract
1 TBSP milk

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Combine shortening, sugar, egg and molasses. Mix well. Sift together flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, cloves, and cinnamon. Add dry ingredients into molasses mixture. Add boiling water to the mix and mix until smooth. Drop by the teaspoonful onto a greased cookie sheet. Bake 8-10 minutes at 400 degrees. While baking, mix together icing ingredients until smooth. Frost while warm.
