1 c shortening
2 TBSP butter
1/2 c sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp baking soda
2 c flour
1/2 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Preheat oven to 375. Mix together all ingredients. Chill dough. Make into little balls. Press with glass dipped in sugar. Bake until light brown.
