1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 eggs (slightly beaten)
1/3 c. milk
1/2 c. nuts (optional)
grated peel of one lemon
1 1/4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar; mix in eggs and set aside
Sift flour with baking powder and salt. Alternately add flour mixture and milk to shortening mixture. Add lemon peel and nuts. Bake in a loaf pan 50 minutes at 350º.

For glaze, dissolve 1/4 c. sugar in the juice from the lemon. Drizzle over bread while it is still warm.
