7 lbs thin sliced cucumbers
1 qt. slack lime
1.5 lbs. salt
1 box alum (medium)
2 qt. vinegar
5 lbs. sugar
1/2 box pickling spice

Directions:
Directions:
Dissolve lime in enough water to cover sliced cucumbers, let stand 12 to 17 hours in enamel container or stone jar. Rinse cucumbers and let stand in salt water for 4 hours. Drain and let stand in cool water 2 hours. Bring to a boil in alum water, drain, combine cucumber with all other ingredients and boil 30 minutes, cool; pack in jars. These pickles do not have to be sealed.
