1 tsp. cinnamon
tsp. nutmeg
tsp. cloves

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar. Mix in egg. By hand add the apples. Sift together the rest of the ingredients. Add to apple mixture by hand. Mix well - batter will be thick! Spread in greased 9- x 9-inch baking pan. Bake at 325 F for 45 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cut while warm.

For an added touch, lay a paper doily on top of the cake, sprinkle with powdered sugar, and remove the doily - makes a pretty design
