Ingredients:
Ingredients:
3 c. flour - cake or regular
2 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
1 c. buttermilk
4 eggs
1/3 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. rum extract (not rum flavoring & I can't ever find extract, so use rum!)

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar. Dissolve soda and baking powder in milk,
Add salt to sifted flour and then alternate adding milk and flour.
Add eggs one at a time and then flavorings.
Bake for 1 hour in a greased bundt pan @325. Remove from pan and while still
warm, either using pastry brush or teaspoon, apply the following:
1 c. sugar, 1/2 c. water just brought to a boil and cool. Add 1 tsp. rum extract.
This will take a little time and patience but worth the effort.

Ice with:
1 c. sugar, 1/2 c. buttermilk, 2 tsp. white Karo, 1/2 tsp. baking soda, 1/4 lb. butter, 1/2 tsp. salt.

Cook @250 or soft ball stage. Add 1 tsp. vanilla and 1 c. chopped nuts. Make sure cake is completely cool before icing or it will never stay on the cake!
