1 cup shortening**
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
3 cups flour
1-1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup peanut butter
Extra sugar to coat

Directions:
Directions:
In a large mixing bowl, cream shortening and sugars. Add eggs and vanilla; mix until well combined. Add dry ingredients and mix well; add the peanut butter. Roll into balls and roll in sugar; place on a greased cookie sheet.

Press criss-cross pattern onto each cookie using a fork. Bake 8-10 minutes at 375.

Can press a chocolate kiss in the middle instead of criss-cross pattern for variation. This recipe is from my grandma Marie Polzin Quade. **I use butter instead of shortening.
