3 cups flour
3 cups sugar
1/2 c vegetable shortening
1/2 lb butter
1 cup milk
1 tbsp. boiling water
5 eggs
2 tsp fresh lemon juice
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla

Icing:
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 tbsp. fresh lemon juice

Directions:
Directions:
sift dry ingredients and reserve.
Cream together butter, shortening and sugar.
Add boiling water and beat.
add eggs, one at a time, beating between each addition.
add sifted dry ingredients alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour.
Add lemon juice and vanilla and mix until blended.
Pour into a tube pan, place in cold oven and back at 325º for 1 1/2 hours or until browned and cake tests done.

Icing:
Bring to a boil 3/4 cups sugar and 2 tbsp. fresh lemon juice.
Pour over hot cake.
