1 to 1 1/2 lbs. ground beef (80/20)
1/3 cup minced onion
1/3 cup water
1 & 1/2 Tablespoon cornstarch
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
1 Tablespoon Beef Stock (BV, Bovril l, etc. - Pulverized beef and chicken bullion cubes can be used, 1 each. If bullion cubes are used, omit salt.)
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon thyme (ground)
1/4 teaspoon marjoram (ground)

Directions:
Put onion in skillet and heat until translucent. Add ground beef and cook until brown. Drain water and fat from cooked beef and return to pan. Add spices and beef stock and stir until well blended. Add corn starch to cold water and stir with a fork until dissolved. Turn heat on med-low and stir a little until it starts to cook, add the water corn starch mixture and stir until blended. The meat will appear slightly sticky. Remove from heat and stir until well blended. It is ready to serve. Serve on warm buns and top with favorite toppings.

You can increase or decrease the seasoning to your taste. Add cumin for a little Mexican flavor, more heat if that suits you. This sandwich originated in Iowa as a Loose Meat Sandwich under the trade name Maid-Rite. You can look up the Maid Rite Recipe online. There are a lot of variations.
