2 c. milk
4 T. shortening
4 T. sugar
4 tsp. salt
2 1/2 c. water
2 pkg. yeast
flour

Oven: 350º ~ Yield: 4 loaves

In a large bowl, microwave shortening with milk until melted. Stir in sugar, salt and warm water. Sprinkle yeast over this mixture. Add a sprinkle of flour over yeast; cover and proof for 10 minutes. Continue adding flour until you can knead dough by hand. Turn out onto lightly floured surface and knead 10 minutes. Place in a lightly greased bowl, turning once to coat top. Cover and let dough rise until double in size (about 60 to 90 minutes). Punch the dough down and let dough rise again. Grease hands. Punch down and shape into 4 loaves. Place in lightly greased pans and let rise until double. Bake for 45-50 minutes. Remove from the pans and butter tops. Cool on wire racks.
