1 c. Shortening
2 c. Sugar
2 eggs, separated
1 c. Buttermilk
5 c. All purpose flour
2 tsp. Baking soda
Pinch of salt
2 tsp. Baking powder
Juice & peel of 2 medium navel oranges
ICING: 2 c. Confectioners' sugar
1/4 c. Orange juice
1 TB butter
1 TB grated orange peel

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 325
In a bowl, cream shortening & sugar.
Beat in egg yolks & buttermilk
Sift together flour, b.soda & b. Powder & salt
Add alternately with orange juice & peel to creamed mixture
Add egg whites & beat until smooth
Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheets
Bake for 10 minutes
