1 tsp salt
1 cup shortening
1 egg
2/3 cup milk
1 cup cornflakes
8-10 apples (8 cups)
3/4 to 1 cup sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1 cup icing sugar
3-4 tsp milk

Directions:
Directions:
Mix together the flour and salt, cut in the shortening using a pastry knife. Beat egg yolk in a measuring cup and add enough milk to make 2/3 cup of liquid. Stir into flour mixture and mix to form a ball. On floured surface roll out half of the dough to fit into a 17 x 12 cookie sheet making sure dough comes up on the sides. Sprinkle with cornflakes that are slightly crushed. Top with apples or cherries. Combine sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle on top of fruit. Roll out remaining dough and place on fruit, seal edges. Cut a few slits on top, brush with beaten egg whites. Bake at 375º F for 45 - 50 minutes. Combine 1 cup icing sugar with 3-4 tsp milk. Drizzle on warm cake.
