5 cups sifted flour
1 level teaspoon baking soda
1 level teaspoon baking powder
2 1/2 cups raisins (light or dark)
3/4 cup sugar
2 1/2 cup buttermilk
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 stick butter

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º
Soak raisins about 1 hour
Stir together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt
Cut in butter with pastry cutter of fork until mixture looks like cornmeal
Stir in raisins
Add buttermilk and egg to the dry ingredients, blend only until flour is moistened
Generously butter two bread pans
Bake for 60 minutes or until done
