1 loaf french bread, unsliced (wal-mart bakery for $1.00)
1 stick butter, melted
1 cup brown sugar
5 large eggs
1 1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla or almond extract
cinnamon
powdered sugar for topping, if desired
maple syrup

Directions:
Directions:
Combine the melted butter with the brown sugar and spread in the bottom of a 9 x 13 pan, slice the bread about 1 inch thick and place over the butter mixture. Whisk together the eggs, milk and vanilla or almond extract. Spoon half of the mixture over the bread and spread around, sprinkle with a little cinnamon. Top with with additional sliced bread and then the remaining egg mixture, then sprinkle with a little more cinnamon. Cover and place in the refrigerator overnight or for at least 6 hours. Remove from the refrigerator about 30 minutes before baking. Preheat oven to 350º, bake for 45 minutes, remove and check to make sure that the center is set. Depending on altitude, it may need a minute or 2 more. Once done, remove and dust with powdered sugar. Serve with warm maple syrup.
