1 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups brown sugar, firmly packed
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 tsp. ground ginger
1 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
1/3 cup molasses
1 tbsp. milk
3 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts

Directions:
Directions:
In a large mixing bowl, beat shortening until creamy. Add brown sugar, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon and cloves. Beat until well-combined. Add molasses, eggs and milk; beat well. Stir in flour, then raisins and nuts. Drop dough by rounded teaspoons onto parchment-lined cookie sheets. Bake in a preheated 375º oven for about 8 minutes or until bottoms are lightly browned.

This soft drop cookie always reminded us of gingerbread men. Mom loved it because you did not have to spend so much time rolling and cutting them out. She would just drop the dough onto the cookie sheet and they always turned out great!
