White cake mix, made according to instructions.

French butter frosting:
2/3 cup sugar
1/4 cup all purpose flour
1/4 tsp salt
3/4 cup milk
1/2 pound cold unsalted butter
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Make a white cake mix. Bake on sheet pan. Cut into three pieces & place each piece on wax paper covered card board. Then split each piece into 2 layers. Remove top layer and spread with French butter frosting. Replace and freeze firm. Take out one piece at a time and cut into 8 crosswise pieces and now cut these strips in half crosswise making petit fours 2 x 1 inch or inch squares. Frost with cream cheese frosting or dip in seven minute icing.

French butter frosting:
Mix, sugar, flour, and salt in saucepan and mix thoroughly, then stir in milk and cook over medium heat with constant stirring until very thick.. Remove from heat and cool to room temperature by placing in a bowl of cold water. Mixture should be warm enough to melt butter, Cut butter into small pieces and beat into mixture. Beat in flavor. Frosting will spread better on cool cake. Store in freezer.
