2 cups sugar
2/3 cup shortening
2 egg yolks, beaten
2 egg whites, beaten
3 tbsp cherry juice
1 3/4 cups buttermilk
2 squares melted chocolate
2/3 cup drained cherries
3 cups cake flour
2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening, sugar, add beaten egg yolks and chocolate. Add salt to flour and add alternately with buttermilk into which baking soda has been added, also add cherries. Fold in egg whites. Pour into cake pan and bake at 350º for 50 to 60 minutes.
