"The tradition of Italian cooking is that of the matriarch. This is the cooking of grandma. She didn't waste time thinking too much about the celery. She got the best celery she could and then she dealt with it."--Mario Batali

Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 c. butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
3 to 4 ripe bananas (almost black)
2 eggs
1 T. vanilla
1/4 c. buttermilk
2 c. flour

3/4 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Cream the butter and sugar in a small mixing bowl. In another mixing bowl, mash bananas, using a fork. Beat eggs and add to bananas along with vanilla and buttermilk. Mix well and add to creamed butter and sugar. In another bowl, sift remaining dry ingredients, then add to the banana mixture. Mix well and pour into 4 small (4X2") greased and floured bread loaf pans. Bake at 350º for 1 hour. About 10 min. before bread is done baking, make the praline topping. Remove bread from oven when done; leave in pans and use fork to puncture holes all through bread. Pour topping over bread, spreading to the corners and sides. Place under the broiler for 1 min., but watch closely so it doesn't burn. Remove from broiler and let set in pans about 10 min. before removing.
