Directions:
Cookies:
Mix sugar and crisco at medium speed until well blended. Add eggs, syrup, and vanilla. Beat well. Combine baking powder, soda, salt, and flour. Add gradually to creamed mixture at low speed until blended. Refrigerate over night or at least two hours. Divide dough into quarters. Roll out on floured surface to 1/4" thick and cut with cookie cutters dipped in flour. Transfer to baking sheet about 2" apart. Bake at 350º for 6-9 minutes depending on size of cookies. Do not over bake. Cool on baking sheet for 2 minutes then move to counter to cool completely. Frost the underside of the cookie so "both sides look pretty" (Grandma Thelen quote) and decorate. Makes 3-4 dozen depending on cookie size.

Frosting:
Melt butter in pan over low heat. Add milk and bring to simmer. Do not boil! Add confectioners sugar and stir until smooth. Remove from heat and add vanilla and dash of salt. Spread warm frosting on under side of cookie and sprinkle with desired decorations.
