1 cup shortening (1/2 cup margarine/butter, ½ cup vegetable shortening)
1 cup confectionary sugar, sifted
1 egg
1 ½ teaspoon almond extract
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 ½ cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon red food coloring

Directions:
Directions:
Mix shortening, margarine, sugar, egg, almond extract, vanilla together.
Sift flour & salt and stir into other mixture.
Divide dough in half.
Blend red food coloring into ½ the dough.
Refrigerate for about 1 hour.
Roll 1 teaspoon of each color of dough into strips 4” long.
Combine 1 strip plain and 1 strip red by twisting into shaped candy canes.
Bake at 350 degrees for 9 minutes on a slightly greased cookie sheet.
