2 lbs. beef round steak or stew meat cut into 3/4 by 2 in strips
1/3 c. flour
2 Tbsp. ketchup or tomato paste
2 tsp. salt
2 sprigs of parsley
1/4 tsp. pepper
1 bay leaf
3 Tbsp. cooking oil or bacon grease
1/2 tsp. thyme
2 beef bullion cubes in 1 c. boiling water.
1/8 tsp garlic
12 small onions
1 c. burgundy

Mom also used 1/2 package of beef stew seasoning instead of spices, garlic and onions.

Mix flour, salt and pepper together. Dredge meat in mixture or place all in a baggy and shake to coat meat. Brown meat in the oil. Add burgundy, spices, bullion broth and ketchup. Cover and simmer gently for 1 to 2 hours. May also cook in a crock pot for 6 to 8 hours on low. Add Mushrooms toward the end of cooking. Remove parsley and bay leaf and serve over noodles or rice. If needed thicken gravy with flour or cornstarch.
