1 c. butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
4 ripe bananas, mashed
1 tsp. vanilla
4 Tbsp. buttermilk
2 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt

Topping:
6 Tbsp. butter
10 Tbsp. brown sugar
5 Tbsp. milk
1/2 c. chopped pecans (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350º F.
2. Cream butter and sugar. Beat eggs and add to sugar mixture. Add bananas, buttermilk, and vanilla.
3. Sift together flour, soda, and salt. Add to banana mixture and beat well.
4. Pour into 2 greased and floured loaf pans (9x5x3)
5. Bake 45 - 50 minutes or until bread pulls away from sides of pan.
6. To prepare topping, melt butter in saucepan. Add sugar and milk. Cook until syrupy. Remove from heat and add chopped pecans. Pour over bread and place under broiler for 2 - 5 minutes. Watch closely!
Yield: 2 loaves

I always toothpick test the loaves to make sure they are done. My cook time is usually closer to 55 minutes.
This recipe is from the Austin Junior League cookbook called Necessities and Temptations. This one definitely falls under the "temptations" category!! But it's a necessity if you're looking for a delicious and indulgent banana bread!
