1/2 C of butter flavored shortening ( Crisco)
1/4 C of brown sugar
1 egg yolk ( save the white portion)
1/2 tsp of vanilla
1 tsp of salt
1 C flour
3/4 C of finely chopped nuts

Directions:
Mix shortening, sugar, egg yolk and vanilla together. Blend in dry ingredients. Once mixed roll into small balls. Beat egg whites and dip the balls in and then roll in the finely chopped nuts. Make a thumbprint in the center of each ball. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet for 10-12 minutes at 350º. When cool, fill center with frosting. I usually use cream cheese ready made frosting and divide in half. Using food coloring, I make one part green and the other red.
