APPLE CAKE:
3 cups of flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp salt
3 eggs
2 cups sugar
1 1/2 cups vegetable oil
3 cups chopped peeled apples
1--2 cups chopped walnuts
2 tsp vanilla

ESTHER STEVEN'S CARAMEL SAUCE:
2 cups sugar
4 TBSP flour
1 cup butter
2 cups evaporated milk
4 tsp vanilla

Directions:

APPLE CAKE:
Sift together flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt.

Stir together eggs, sugar and vegetable oil. Gradually add in the flour mixture and mix for three minutes

Fold in apples, walnuts and vanilla

Bake at 350º in greased 9x13 pan for one hour

CARAMEL SAUCE:
Combine ingredients in saucepan, Cook over low heat--watch carefully. Cook until thickened. Pour a large spoonful over each piece when serving. Sauce can be reheated in the microwave.

I'm calling this "everybody's" recipe because I've seen notes and emails from Helen, Sharon and Sheryl, all claiming credit for the recipe. Whoever came up with it, it's awesome! If you're having a bad day, add a little bourbon to that caramel sauce just before serving. It will make you feel better!
