1 tbsp uncooked rice
2 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp grated onion
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 tsp salt
1/ tsp pepper
1/4 tsp paprika

Sauce:
2 tbsp oil

Directions:
Early in the day, or day before, wash cabbage, cut out core. Cook whole in boiling water until barely tender, then drain.
Combine ground beef, rice ,2 tbsp sugar, grated onion, 1 tbsp lemon juice, 1 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp pepper and1/4 tsp paprika.

Separate about 8 large leaves from the cabbage (save the rest of cabbage head to cut up and cook with butter and cream another day?)

Put spoonful of uncooked meat mixture on each leaf; roll up tucking in ends to make neat compact bundles.

Heat oven to 325 F.

Saute chopped onion in 2 tbsp oil with 1/2 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp paprika and a dash of pepper for about 10 minutes, or until onion is tender. Add hot water. Place in baking dish or casserole/roasting pan. Place cabbage rolls on top of onion. Mix tomato soup with 1/4 cup sugar, 1/4 cup lemon juice and pour over cabbage rolls.

Cover with foil and bake 2 hours. Taste - add more sugar or lemon juice if desired.

Refrigerate or serve. (they do taste best if made a day ahead. Then reheat in 325 oven)
