1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 tsp. anise seeds
1/4 tsp. almond extract
5 eggs
2 1/2 cups flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
2/3 cup finely chopped almonds

Directions:
Directions:
In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar; beat well. Add anise seeds and almond extract; mix well. Add eggs, one at a time, blending well after each addition; beat until light and fluffy. Blend in dry ingredients and almonds. Turn batter into a greased and floured bread pan. Bake in a preheated 350º oven for 50 to 60 minutes or until done. Must be cold before slicing.

This recipe is from our Italian grandmother Angela. In the Old Country, it was made especially for St. Joseph's Day. Some say it is more like a quick bread and others say it is more like a pound cake...either way, it is delicious!
