3 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. shortening
1 egg, divided
1/2 c. milk
8 c. peeled, thin sliced apples
1 1/2 to 2 c. sugar
3 tbsp. flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 stick of butter
1 1/2 c powdered sugar
1/8 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
2 to 3 tbsp. milk

Directions:
Directions:
Mix flour and salt together in large bowl. Cut in shortening. Lightly beat egg yolk into milk. Add to flour mixture. Roll out and pat half dough into jelly roll pan. Arrange apples on dough. Combine sugar, flour, and cinnamon; sprinkle over apples. Dot with butter. Roll out remaining dough; covering apples. Brush with beaten egg white. Bake at 375º for 45 minutes or until done. Mix powdered sugar, salt, vanilla, and milk. Drizzle over pastry while still warm.
