12 oz. can of beer
3 cups self-rising flour
3 tbsp. sugar
1/4 cup butter, melted

Directions:
Directions:
In a large bowl, combine beer, flour and sugar with a wooden spoon. Pour mixture into a lightly-greased bread pan. Drizzle melted butter on top. Bake in a preheated 350º oven for 1 hour or until knife comes out clean. Let rest for 15 minutes in the pan, then turn out and slice.

Mom never had much beer around, but would often make this recipe using root beer instead. It was quick and so easy to make in a pinch.
