9-inch pie crust, unbaked
3 to 4 large cooking apples
2 tbsp. lemon juice
1/2 cup sugar
2 tbsp. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon

Topping:
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup butter
1/8 tsp. ground cinnamon

In a large bowl, peel and core each apple and cut into 16 slices. Sprinkle lemon juice on top. In another bowl, mix the sugar, flour, salt and cinnamon together. Add the apples and toss until well-coated. Fill the pie shell, piling it high in the center. Topping: Mix the sugar, flour, butter and cinnamon to a paste and spread over the top of the apple slices. Place the pie into a clean brown paper bag; closing the open end. Place on a cookie sheet and bake in a preheated 400º oven for about one hour. Remove pie from the oven and let stand for 10 minutes before removing it from the bag.

This fool-proof apple pie recipe is easy to make. If you don't want to put it into a brown paper bag, you can wrap it with parchment paper. One of our dad's favorite desserts was apple pie with vanilla ice cream. So when mom made this, he was in heaven!
