small bag of carrots; cut
1 small onion
salt and pepper to taste
ham base
elbow pasta

Directions:
Directions:
Rinse ham bone and place in large soup pan. Add water to fill pan approximately 3" from top
Add split peas and stir. When peas are cooking, use small strainer and remove the film at top of water from peas. When all the film is gone, add diced carrots and chopped onions.
Bring to boil; then simmer til peas & carrots are cooked.
Add some ham base if needed. Sometimes there is not enough ham on the bone for flavor.
Add salt & pepper at end. Remove ham bone when vegetables are cooked. Cut off any ham from bone and add to soup.

Cook 1# elbow pasta in salted water. Drain, saving some water because of thickness, and add to soup.
