1 C Cornmeal (white or yellow)
1/2 C Flour
1/2 tsp.Soda
1 tsp Salt
1 Heaping tsp. Baking Powder
1 T Sugar
1 Egg
1 C Buttermilk

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 450º - If using cast iron - put the implement into the oven and grease each crevice with crisco. This may be made into cornbread muffins, cornbread sticks, or,if desired, thinned with a little extra milk, and fried in butter like pancakes (we called these cornbread ho-cakes) If muffins or sticks are made, bake until golden brown.

This is another recipe from my Great Grandma, Minnie Piersall. My Grandma always made these when Grandpa had brought home his fresh catch of blue gill, crappie or snook. Should there be any fish bones remaining in the fish filet, the cornbread was supposed to help catch the bone so that one wouldn't choke on the bone.
