1 c. sugar
1 c. shortening (1/2 butter & 1/2 crisco)
1 egg
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. vanilla or almond (or a little of each)

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening, sugar and beat in egg. Add remaining ingredients. Make a small ball then grease the bottom of small glass and dip it into sugar. Then press down each ball and bake @ 350º until cookie colors a bit. Do not grease cookie sheet.
