1 cup butter
1/2 cup shortening
1 lb. brown sugar
1 cup sugar
5 eggs
3 cups sifted flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
1 cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup chopped walnuts

Walnut Glaze:
1 cup sifted confectioner's sugar
2 Tbsp. butter
6 Tbsp. cream
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Directions:
Directions:
Beat together butter and shortening.
Gradually add sugars, creaming until mixture is light and fluffy.
Beat in eggs, one at a time.
Sift together dry ingredients:
Add alternately with milk and vanilla to the creamed mixture.
Stir in nuts.
Pour batter into greased and floured 10 in. tube pan.
Bake in moderate 350 degree oven 1 hr. and 15 min. or until done when tested with a straw.
Cool on rack for 10 minutes, then remove from pan.
Place on rack over piece of wax paper.
Pour Walnut Glaze over hot cake.
If icing falls onto the wax paper, scoop it up and put it back on the cake.

Walnut Glaze: Cream sugar and butter.
Add cream, vanilla and walnuts.
Blend well.
