Sift together:
2 1/2 cups flour
1 2/3 cups sugar
1 1/4 tsp baking powder
1 1/4 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt

Put aside

Mix well:
2/3 cup shortening
1/3 cup buttermilk
2 beaten eggs
1 1/4 cups over ripe mashed bananas
Directions:

Mix together all ingredients. Fold in 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional) Put in 9 x 13 greased and floured pan. Bake at 350º for 40 min or until toothpick poked in center comes out clean. Ice with favorite white icing
